ELVIS “Chuchu’’ Chiweshe is hoping to use years of experience gained from working with junior players at Dynamos and Churchill High School to turn the envisaged Harare City academy into a success story. Chiweshe, speaking at the Sunshine Boys’ awards ceremony in the capital last Friday night, said he was looking forward to producing more young talent that would ensure Harare City would in future save on buying players.

The former Dynamos coach, who has also had stints in Botswana and Swaziland, said he would first target Under-14 players that are enrolled in the council schools in Harare.

“At the moment we are looking at the Under-14 players and any others who show interest from those who are enrolled in council schools and then with time we will grow,’’ Chiweshe.

Chiweshe, who took Dynamos to the Champions League group stage in 2010, said although he would now be devoting his time to working with teenage boys, he was not plunging into new territory.

“When it comes from grooming players I am not starting that at Harare City, it all started at Dynamos.

“I have got at lager number of players that I have groomed. Many of the players in the Premiers Soccer League came through my hands.,’’ Chiweshe said.

Chiweshe cited a number of players some of whom later graduated to form the popular Kidznet squad at Dynamos as testimony of his passion and patience with the juniors. “Zhaimu Jambo, Norman Maroto, Eddie Mashiri, Samson Choruwa and Leo Kurauzvione are some of the players I coached and helped develop their talents.”
