Christ TV, one of the evangelical channels, recently celebrated its first anniversary and honoured Zimbabwean musicians across genres of music at the City Sports Centre. Although the channel has been in existence for the last 12 months, competition must have been stiff considering other hugely popular evangelical channels such as Emmanuel TV, Love World and most recently Yadah TV.

Christ TV, which is run by televangelist Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa’s United Family International Church, held an invitational concert and the awards ceremony where almost every musician that attended, established or upcoming was given an award.

In fact the word Permican stands for Prophets Emmanuel and Ruth Makandiwa Invitational and Concert Awards Night.
So when Christ TV had its first ever Permican awards we were not surprised because Zimbabwean musicians are desperate for recognition.
This is why some artistes would go to great lengths to grab an award or a degree, without checking the authenticity.

We were told that artistes were awarded in three categories Rising Star, Lead the Way and Excellence awards as well as “the role they (artistes) played in the local music industry”.
But what roles did Emelda Mudzamiri, Alex3,2, Cathy Mhlanga and Tinashe Magacha play in the music industry?

The idea of the anniversary or concert was good but there was something fishy about the awards ceremony.
How come every artiste that turned up was given an award?

The fact that there was no nomination prior to the awards ceremony makes the show much ado about nothing. And is there a guarantee the awards would be held again next year or it was just a one-off thing.

While the awards should be given to deserving artistes, there is also need for those who seek to honour musicians to have a criteria. Hand picking winners is certainly not the right way. Oddly enough, there were no dancehall artistes that were honoured and yet the awards were supposed to cut across genres.

Critics have said the awards ceremony was nothing but a publicity stunt for Christ TV. The truth of the matter is that for any awards show to be credible there should be a clear criteria. Obviously, you cannot give everybody an award.

Elsewhere on the small screen, yours truly was surprised to see a repeat of Big Brother The Chase on DStv.
I didn’t think anyone would be interested in watching repeats of a “reality series”.

If the producers wanted us to catch up on the Chaser s what they should have done was to go around the continent and interview each of the Chasers on how the show changed their lives.

Perhaps, it would have been interesting to find out whether or not any of those “flings” in the Rubi or Diamond house ever survived after the show.
You talk of Polikem, HaCleo, Oneza and others who fell in love and promised each other heaven on earth during their stay in the house.

Delicious Dillish from Namibia who won the prize money did she tie the knot with her long time boyfriend? Are they still together or money changed everything?
There are so many high profile divorces these days if Mariah and Nick Cannon broke up and if Wiz and Amber split and if Jordin Sparks parted ways with Jason Derulo surely, it should be interesting to know if any of those BBA affairs lasted the course? Maybe the couples were playing house?

Quite honestly, I don’t see how repeats would excite viewers especially now when people anxiously wait for the new season. The idea of a reality series is to keep viewers guessing on what will happen next and this is why “Biggie” always comes up with different twists to the game.

And food for thought, how is Big Brother Hotshots’ Opening Show going to be different now that we already know the housemates?
Big Brother Hotshots is like no other editions and producers maybe found wanting considering that it’s a game of surprises and twists.
