Gospel musician Rev TT Chivaviro has been appointed global ambassador for Alive Albinism Initiative. The deal will see the musician participating in awareness adverts, jingles and songs, among other albinism awareness campaign activities. In a statement executive director of the organisation, Marange Tapiwa Gwenlisa said having identified the significant role that gospel music can play in changing the mindset of the general African populace on albinism related issues they appointed Chivaviro as their ambassador.“Noting the influence of Rev Chivaviro, both as an ecclesiastical leader and as a gospel artiste, the managing board of Alive Albinism Initiative has felt confident that a mergence between the organisation and the musician will be an important union primarily in raising global awareness,” said Marange.

She said they have considered the misconceptions associated with albinism in Africa and felt more awareness campaigns to fight mistaken beliefs are needed.

The albino community in Africa has been exposed to stigma, discrimination, bullying, insolence and brutalities over the past years.

The organisation appreciated Rev Chivaviro’s willingness to work for the betterment of albinos.

“We, as Alive Albinism Initiative warmly welcome you to the Alive team in your capacity as Global Ambassador. Your commitment to give off your time and talents to serve the albino community is duly noted and sincerely appreciated by the albino community in the whole of Zimbabwe and beyond. You are a pioneer and history maker in serving in the capacity of Global Ambassador for Alive Albinism as the post has recently been created.”

Chivaviro, who rose to fame with the hit “Ebenezer”, said God has granted him another opportunity to spearhead awareness campaigns for disadvantaged sect of the society.

“I am happy that God has granted me an opportunity to work on such an initiative. We have to work together to create awareness on albinism. I will work hard in making sure we fight any form of segregation,” he said.
