The exhumation of 18 bodies found during the re-allocation of residential stands in Manyame area in Chitungwiza, started yesterday with the remains of six people being reburied. The process was led by Chief Seke who performed the rituals. He was accompanied by some village heads, together with Chitungwiza Municipality officials and members of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The team later reburied the exposed remains at Chitungwiza cemetery in Nyatsime area.

The exposed remains had raised concern among residents who stumbled upon them during construction of their houses and alerted council officials.

However, council could not expedite the process since they had to consult with the chief and inform the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Council bought the coffins, which were used to rebury the remains.

Chief Seke informed members of the public about the importance of the rituals.

“We are here to rebury the exposed human skeletons so that residents in this area can live a normal life.

“We are urging the residents of Chitungwiza that if they come across exposed skeletons, they should report to the relevant authorities,” said Chief Seke.
