Chitungwiza Municipality yesterday engaged its creditors to find common ground on the debt issue that is hindering the smooth flow of council business and has resulted in its property being attached on a number of occasions.

Addressing delegates at the two-day meeting at Stephen Margolis Resort centre along New Chitungwiza road, Chitungwiza Municipality acting town clerk Ms Charity Mavhunga admitted that all was not well within the council.

“The purpose of this workshop is to come-up with strategies on managing debt as most of you are aware, Chitungwiza Municipality is facing serious financial challenges,” said Ms Maunga.

“These challenges are emanating from our revenue, which is decreasing annually due to the closure of businesses and low disposable income among residents due to economic reasons. Council is failing to adhere to some payment plans due to these liquidity challenges resulting in some of our creditors taking the legal route in order to recover their money.”
