The inagural Chiredzi Arts Festival is on course with iconic sculptor Dominic Benhura expected to grace the event.

The Chiredzi Arts Festival will give sculptors from the Lowveld a chance to get their works exposed. The festival will be taking place from August 20 to 30 this year at Civic Centre in the sugar-cane town. According to the organisers, they will conduct workshops with sculptors and renowned sculptor Benhura will lead the workshops. Spokesperson of the event Mike Hove said that was the only way artists get exposure.

“Obviously sculptors will have the chance to shine as they will be getting notes from the likes of Benhura. They will be taught how to make it in the industry,” said Hove. Running under the theme “Let it Play”, the fête will see several establishes musicians conducting seminars. The organisers have also partnered Chiredzi Town Council. Chiredzi Mayor Francis Moyo confirmed the development saying he was hoping that the festival will bring results to Chiredzi. “We have agreed to a partnership because their proposal was worth it. That is a chance for artistes from the Lowveld to get exposure,” he said.

He said they were looking forward to have the event grow bigger with time. “Our wish is to have such events grow bigger so that our artistes and also business grow,” he said.

Sculpting is one art discipline that leaves lasting memories as well as educating the nation in various aspects of living. For the artistes it has managed to give them life as they sell their artworks in different parts of the world.
