Musician Progress Chipfumo has failed to pay $175 for use of a van he hired in April and the matter was taken to Harare Civil Court yesterday.Chipfumo once appeared before a Harare Civil Court in May for failing to pay $173 for flyers and posters.

Owner of the van, Tendai Manonga, said the musician was being evasive in paying the debt yet he received his services.

“He hired my van on April 19 as he was going to play at a musical gala in Bikita on an agreement that he was going to pay me $175 the following morning for my services,” Manonga said.

Manonga said he drove Chipfumo’s band members and the instruments to Bikita where the gala was being held.

“When I asked him to give me my money the following morning, he started making fake promises until today,” he said.

“I have been calling him on his mobile phone since that day and at times he picks his phone and laughs.”

Manonga said he serviced his car for $80 when he returned to Harare.

“He holds shows every week at Pamuzinda but he is failing to pay me. I don’t know why he is doing that to me. I have suffered a lot because of him,” said Munonga.

Manonga said the musician is in the habit of making promises but when his given date of payment comes, he shifts it to another.

Chipfumo did not show up at the court.

Harare Civil Court magistrate Audrey Tarugarira passed her judgment in default ordering Chipfumo to pay Manonga’s $175 before the end of September.
