Efforts to bring Buhera South Member of Parliament Joseph “Chinoz” Chinotimba back to the Book Café comedy stage hit a brick wall yesterday after the legislator refused to be ‘used for free’.Chinotimba was billed to be part of a comedy show set for the Book Café tonight as a guest act.

It would have been his second appearance at a comedy platform at the venue following his hilarious performance in March this year when he was guest of honour at Harare International Carnival Comedy Night.

The MP had the last laugh at the show as he cracked jokes that have been made about him on social media. He excited the audience with a number of new jokes that made him the ‘comedian of the night’ at the event.

Organisers of tonight’s show, Simuka Comedy, had probably hoped for a repeat of the exciting act but Chinotimba has changed his mind.

In announcing the scheduled show Simuka Comedy manageress Shanee Banda was hopeful of an exciting night.

“Comrade Chinoz will share the stage with the biggest comedians in the country and this is likely to be an exciting show. It is certain that people will laugh their lungs out,” she said.

However, yesterday Chinotimba said he would not attend tonight’s show because organisers were using him for free to market their concept.

“I am not going to be there because I am tired of people that are taking advantage of me yet I get nothing out of it,” he said.

“Last time I did it for free but I have realised that the organisers now want to make money from my effort without rewarding me.”In an interview with The Herald Entertainment yesterday, Simba the Comic King of Simuka Comedy said they would accept Chinotimba’s decision.

“It’s not a big deal that he is no longer coming as guest.  We respect his decision and we are proceeding with the show.”Simuka Comedy is a collaboration of popular and emerging comedians who develop, promote and present various acts.

Tonight’s show will be held in collaboration with ZimComedy Live and will see comedians Doc Vikela, Simba the Comic King and Q the Boss taking turns to entertain fans.

“We are going down memory lane through the comedy show when we revisit some important historical issues in a lighter way. We are also going to record the show and produce it on DVD later,” said Simba the Comic King.
