Zimdancehall artistes have been widely considered to emerge from high-density areas such as Mbare, Highfield, Dzivaresekwa, Mabvuku and Chitungwiza.

To this effect, very few Zimdancehall artistes from outside major cities such as Harare, Mutare, Gweru and Kwekwe are recognised.

But the same cannot be said for Chinhoyi Zimdancehall lovers who boast their own hero by the name Raidar Jonzy.

Jonzy, real name Roy Kadzviti, has three albums under his belt, namely “Life Goes On”, “I Am a Soldier” and “True Player”, which have made him a household name in and around Chinhoyi.

The talented and soft-spoken musician admits he has been in the music business for almost 15 years having started his career at the turn of the new millennium.

“I started making music when I was about 15 years old and that was around the year 2000. I have not looked back ever since and I am going to continue making music until I get the recognition that I deserve,” he said.

His first single track, “Vavengi”, released in 2002, was produced by seasoned urban grooves producer Delani Makhalima. In 2004, Raidar Jonzy made another collaboration with V.O.J (Voice of Joy) on the tracks “Ndinokuda” and “Wanditora Moyo” which were produced by the late great urban grooves producer Playboy before releasing his debut album in 2007.

“I have also worked with various well- known artistes and producers. In 2004 I recorded two tracks with the group Voice of Joy (V.O.J),” he said.

“These tracks were produced by the late great PlayBoy. Sadly, that was the last project I did with PlayBoy before he passed away the following year.

“In 2007, I released my first album called ‘True Player’ which has seven tracks and most of these featured the group Powerful 3 Family,” he said.

In 2010, Raidar Jonzy moved to Botswana, in search of greener pastures. “I went to Botswana early 2010, and there I met a Zimbabwean producer Dr Tawanda. I worked with him on my album ‘I’m a Soldier” which I recorded in various languages including French, Suthu and Tswana.

“The album was a major success as it had two Power FM chart-topping tracks.”

It seems 2015 has started on a high note for Raidar Jonzy, who returned home in 2012, as he has released another seven-track album “Life Goes On”.
