The Vice President of the People’s Republic of China Li Yuanchao recently sent congratulatory messages to the newly-appointed Vice Presidents Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa and Cde Phelekezela Mphoko.

In his message, Vice President Li pledged his government’s willingness to elevate its ties with the Government of Zimbabwe.

Vice President Li said China is willing to work with Zimbabwe to lift bilateral friendly relations to a higher level so as to bring more benefits to both nations.

He also said China and Zimbabwe enjoy profound traditional friendship.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 34 years ago, the two countries have deepened political mutual trust and conducted fruitful co-operation in various areas such as trade and the economy and people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides have supported each other and co-ordinated their efforts in international affairs and bilateral relations have a broad prospect for further development, said the Chinese vice president.

Vice Presidents Mnangagwa and Mphoko took office on December 12 following the ruling ZANU-PF party’s 6th National People’s Congress, which saw Dr Joice Mujuru who had been Vice President for 10 years falling by the wayside.

Cde Mnangagwa is among the first group of ZANLA freedom fighters to receive military training in China in the 1960s. China recently pledged its full support towards the implementation of Zim-Asset.
