THE Chinese government yesterday donated office and communication equipment worth US$30 000 to Government. The equipment that was handed over to Foreign Affairs Ministry Permanent Secretary Ambassador Joey Bimha by Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Lin Lin, comprise of 20 desktops, 14 printers and 31 smart phones. Ambassador Bimha welcomed the donation saying it would go a long way in assisting the ministry to discharge its duties.

“We welcome this donation of office and communication equipment as yet another demonstration of the excellent relations that exist between this ministry and the Embassy of China and of course between the countries,” he said.

“This donation will, no doubt, contribute to augmenting service delivery and efficiency in the execution of our duties.”

Mr Bimha said China continued to be instrumental in the country’s economic development especially during this time when the country was under economic sanctions.

“China continues to play an active role in supporting our efforts to revive our economy by availing grants, buyer’s credit facilities and concessionary loans for the financing of projects that are essential to the realisation of Zim-Asset,” he said.

“As you are aware, China has provided funds for the on-going City of Harare’s water and sewer project, the Kariba South Power Expansion Project as well as the Victoria Falls Airport development project, just to mention a few.”

Ambassador Bimha thanked the China for its unwavering support towards Zimbabwe.

Mr Lin said China had redoubled its efforts in dealing with Zimbabwe as it sought to deepen bilateral relations dating back to the liberation struggle.

“Our high-level exchanges are frequent, our political mutual trust is deepening, our bilateral trade and investment has been rapidly expanding, our development assistance co-operation is effective and our cultural and people-to-people exchanges are fruitful,” he said.

Mr Lin pledged China’s full support towards the implementation of Zim-Asset.
