ZIMBABWE international strikers, Thomas Chideu and Evans Rusike, have gone to South Africa to try their luck after being invited for trials by two ABSA Premiership sides this week.

The pair left the country separately over the weekend with Highlanders striker Chideu heading for Ajax Cape Town while last year’s Soccer Star of the Year finalist, Rusike, will be at Maritzburg United. South African clubs have started their pre-season and are looking at boosting their squads ahead of the league season which starts in August.

Chideu is playing professional football for the first time this year after making his Premiership debut with Highlanders at the beginning of the season.

The teenager will be training with Urban Warriors for a week and if he impresses the coaches he might end up getting a deal.

Chideu was not available for Bosso’s clash with Dynamos at the weekend as he was serving suspension for the red card he picked in Highlanders’ last assignment before the league break against How Mine.

His manager Gibson Mahachi choose not to shed light on the trials programme. Hwange’s Rusike, who has scored four league goals so far for the coalminers, will also be hoping for the best as he has been in good form.

Last weekend, Rusike, scored a beautiful goal against Comoros in the 2-0 CHAN win at Rufaro.

The national team is scheduled to travel to the island nation this week for the return leg without the two players.

Yesterday, Rusike’s manager, Edzai Kasinauyo, who is in South Africa with the player, said the forward will be at Maritzburg for the next 10 days for the assessment and will begin training this morning.
