Chibuku Road to Fame national finals are beckoning as provincial finals reach the last stages. Mashonaland East hosts its provincial final this weekend and the preliminaries close next week with a Mashonaland Central contest. The provincial winners will meet at Glamis Arena on September 26.

Chibuku Road to Fame has brought not only life to unheralded musicians but excitement and thrills whenever the finals take place. Yesterday the organisers of the event announced the list of the groups that have so far managed to sail through in different provinces. The groups Those Guys, Mark Sounds Band, African Roots, Makokoba Rumba Sounds, Grade 2D, Wezhira Band, Motto Super Sounds, Adequate Sounds and the remaining two provinces will battle each other in the competition.

This year’s winner will join some of the previous winners such as Club Shanga, Munandi Express, Terry and the Bliss, Attack Jazz band and Romeo Gasa who has managed to produce a number of albums after the competition. The competition is a combined effort between National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and Delta Beverages.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Delta Beverages marketing manager, Patricia Murambinda confirmed the results and said the competition is on. She said this year’s competition is going to be different as they have invited a mixed line-up of artistes to perform on the day in question.

“We have an exciting guest artistes line-up for this year’s event who include Alick Macheso, Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Killer T and First Farai. “People should expect lots of entertainment from the 10 competing groups from the provinces and the guest artistes. They should also expect exciting activities backed by the Chibuku brand as we have various activities in store,” she said. The winning group will walk away with a recording contract and $5 000 cash.
