The late Afro-jazz musician, Blessing “Tasarina” Chibaya, was given a befitting tribute at the Midlands Music Awards held at the Midlands Hotel over the weekend.

Tasarina, who died in April, not only scooped the Best Jazz Music Award for her album “Zvakarongeka” but she was given special mention for her musical contribution in the province and the nation as a whole.

Her award was accepted by her mother, Monica Chipo Chibaya, brother Given Chibaya and manager Wadzanai Gumbo-Ndlovu, who said Tasarina’s music had not died with her.

“She left us so soon but her voice will continue to play in our hearts. Her album ‘Zvakarongeka’ is out and as her manager I will not rest until the world hears her work. I thank her family for their support and also her band that stood by her album,” said Gumbo- Ndlovu.

Producer Aisha Dawn Nhara performed Tasarina’s song “Murume Wangu” together with band “Samukoko”.

Fellow musician Shingi Mangoma dedicated her Best House Music Award to the late musician. The second edition of the Midlands Music Awards was a success with the organisers paying homage to the province’s finest musicians.

Gospel musician Mathias Mhere was the toast of the night, getting two gongs for Best Gospel Music and Album of the Year.

Rising duo Soul Afrika, who featured in three categories got their recognition as the best Afro Pop Music — which was also recognised as the best act of 2015.

The awards did not only showcase the crème de la creme but highlighted splendid performances from promising artistes such as Valentyne (Best RnB/ Soul Music) Good Child (Best Collaboration for the year) and rapper Guluva 7.
