LONDON — Chelsea have gazumped Crystal Palace and West Ham to agree a stunning £33 million deal with Marseille for striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Blues have also seen off competition from Juventus to land the coveted striker, who scored 17 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

The 22-year-old will now be granted special permission to leave the Belgium squad for a medical and is expected to sign a five-year deal to become Antonio Conte’s first signing.

Chelsea have had Batshuayi on their shortlist for some time.

They had intended to step up their interest had their primary targets, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, proved beyond them.

But they scrapped their plans to wait and slapped in a bid at 5pm on Tuesday afternoon after fearing Crystal Palace would land him. — The Mirror.
