CHEGUTU Pirates secretary-general, Musa Bwanausi, has died. The club official, who stood firm as a number of challenges threatened to destroy the Mashonaland West World Navi Northern Region Division One side this year, had been ill for some time. He was 46 and will be buried in the town tomorrow.

Bwanausi, who was with the Pirates as a club official for close to eight years, is survived by his wife and five boys.
Chegutu Pirates team manager Emmanuel Gutu said the club has been robbed of a committed and loyal son.

“We have lost a dedicated person who had the team at heart and he would stand up to see that things were going on well for the team in good and bad times.

“He was responsible for the day-to-day running of the team as he had no other commitments other than being there for the team.
“Bwanausi was responsible for the registration of players and would attend all meetings and so it is a great loss for the Chegutu community,” said Gutu.

Chegutu Pirates had an indifferent first half of the season and fired coach Tavaka Gumbo.
Pirates have always enjoyed massive support from the Chegutu community.

Northern Region chairman Willard Manyengavana described Bwanausi’s death as a big blow not only for the Pirates, but for the entire Division One community.

“Only today, we had arranged to go, together with Sweeney Mushonga (Northern Region secretary-general) to Chegutu to see our colleague after we learnt that he wasn’t feeling well,” said Manyengavana.

“Unfortunately, we could not travel, after some things cropped up, and then we heard that he had passed on.
“It’s very sad because he was very committed to try and make sure that the Chegutu Pirates brand continues to grow and he was proud of his team and wanted them to be very competitive.”
