Charakupa to be buried today

A church service was held yesterday afternoon at Nyaradzo Funeral Service before his body was taken to Chihota.
A family spokesperson, Mrs Eunice Charakupa–Mazanhi, described Onward’s death as a great loss to the family.

“Charakupa was a man of principles who had unconditional love and was a pillar of strength for the whole family as he brought peace and unity,” she said.
Charakupa (48) died at Ray of Hope Nursing Home where he had been referred from Parirenyatwa after battling with head injuries sustained in a road accident two weeks ago.
His death comes barely two weeks after that of Herald senior reporter Chakanetsa Chidyamatiyo who died on the spot in the same accident.

Charakupa joined The Herald on August 22 1988 as a darkroom assistant. In 1990 he was promoted to junior photographer after which he rose through the ranks to become senior photographer in 1992.
In 2007, he was promoted deputy chief photographer, a position he held until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Sifiso, and three children.

Meanwhile, veteran journalist and former Head of the Division of Mass Communication at the Harare Polytechnic Tim Nyahunzvi, who died last week, was buried at Warren Hills Cemetery on Saturday.
