Chaos once again rocked this year’s edition of the Zim Hip-hop Awards ceremony held at Wing Wah Restaurant, in Harare. The awards show which was marred by delays lacked the glitz and glamour that is normally associated with the event while also the poor sound system and lack of coordination dampened the spirits. To make matters worse, the presenters of the awards sat somewhere at the back due to haphazard arrangement of seats by organisers.

ZHHA founder Aldrin “Beefy” Harrison dismissed reports that artistes had to pay for them to win awards.

“We have heard a lot of stories that we get money to shortlist an artiste or we are biased but let me put the record straight, artistes submit their work and then the adjudicators do their job. You can’t have a song which you play to your friends with no airplay on radio and complain that ZHHA is bogus,” he said.

Some disgruntled fans who spoke to The Herald Entertainment said the show was a mere joke.

“This is the fourth edition and I can’t believe that the organisers have learnt nothing from the past. First the venue itself was not conducive because it was crowded with some rowdy youths who wanted to get in for free,” said Tryshence Ndlovu from Eastlea.

Ndlovu said fans were shortchanged.

“We didn’t get value for our money. I think it’s true what we have heard that some artistes pay to perform or win an award. It is my own analysis,” he said.

However violence broke out when former BBA housemate Hakeem was presenting an award and disrespected Pee Kay.

“For Pee Kay to get an award is bull***t. Tehn Diamond was supposed to get the award,” he said.

A scuffle involving Hakeem and Pee Kay then ensued disrupting the programme.

Blackbird who had earlier on won an award for Best Female Hip-hop artiste calmed the two camps.

Controversial rapper Schingy and his Team Bho stable left many dumbfounded after they brought a coffin on stage.

“The music especially the hip-hop kingdom is going from bad to worse. I think Zimbabwe is not yet ready to accept such acts worst of all making fun of death,” said one fan.
