Chinhoyi-based Zim dancehall artiste Jerry B, real name Gerald Masanga, walked away with the most promising artiste award ahead of Ninja Kabhida, Killer Man, Darula and Rebel at the just ended Zim Dancehall Awards ceremony held in the capital at the week- end.

The upcoming artiste’s career that is spanning close to five years now has been awarded for the first time. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, the Chinhoyi- born chanter who is also affiliated with the HKD Danger Zone stable, said he was thrilled to come out tops in his category.

“This year’s most promising Zim dancehall artiste nominees were all great chanters who are doing well in the industry. But I was honoured to be recognised from such a tight contest. To the other chanters I say you deserved it too, it is not always about the award it’s about making great music”, he said.

The 26-year-old artiste said he owes his award to his crew. “I am forever grateful to have received this award for the first time thanks to the help of Sheltung, Sunshine and the HKD family and all my fans out there. I have waited for a long time for something like this to come my way and I think more is coming. I am not going to stop now since my music has got such attention. My heart has just been uplifted. I guess I will keep the fire burning,” he said.

Jerry B, popularly known as the “HKD President” and also as “Mukanya” said he has a new album on the cards. “This award has given me the spotlight I always wanted for my music and it came at a time when I am getting ready to release my new eight-track album titled ‘Gudo Guru’ that I have set for release next month. The album will carry tracks like ‘Nhamo Yandinayo’, ‘Makuwerere’ and many others”, he said.

The “Kanoda Inini” hitmaker said he has bigger plans for this year. “This year is still just beginning and I would like to say I will be doing more singles and collaborations with my crew and other artistes,” he said. He is doing well with tracks like “Mamutsa Zvirere”, “Kanoda inini” and “Gitare” featuring Magikal and many others.
