A gig dubbed “Champions In Action” scheduled for Long Cheng Plaza on Valentine’s Day will present another opportunity to see the creme-dela-creme of Zim dancehall on one stage.

Unlike Sting stage show where two rival artistes go head-to-head, “Champions In Action” will see all the performing artistes on one stage using one band.

This will be the first time in Harare that the artistes will be sharing almost everything from the stage, the microphones to the backing band.

However, it takes talented artistes to know which song to play when, since artistes will be rocking the microphone one after the other.

Show promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza said they were introducing the concept in Harare for the first time.

“It’s basically a marathon show whereby there won’t be any changeover of bands, but instead it’s the artistes who will take turns one after the other. The artistes will appear on stage at the same time and the emcee will be calling the next performing artistes.

“In other words time wasters will not be given a chance since other artistes will be waiting to thrill the audiences,” Chipaz said.

Asked if the artistes will not clash on stage, Chipaz said the show was not about opponents on stage but a collaborative effort.

“Unlike Sting which is a stage show where two artistes clash on the microphone it is different from ‘Champions In Action’ because the artiste has to have a playlist that would excite the crowd and there are no opponents.

“It is like a collaborative effort where all the artistes focus on one thing which is to thrill fans. However, there is going to be tight security not just for the artistes but the audience as well,” he said.

He said the gig was slated for the Long Cheng Plaza shopping mall, a rather secure venue to show that it was a new concert.

“We are yet to unveil the performing artistes but we hope by the end of this week the line-up will be ready. So far, the artistes have shown enthusiasm about the event and we are going to put it together in the best possible way.

“We are aware that there are some artistes who do not see eye-to-eye and this is why the line-up is going to be a little different,” Chipaz said.
