The Zanu-PF Central Committee, which met in Harare on Friday last week received various reports from several departments on developments in the party.

Speaking after the meeting, Zanu-PF secretary for information and publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, said the first report came from the secretary for administration Cde Ignatius Chombo, who briefed the meeting on administrative issues such as staffing, office accommodation and refurbishment of party offices.

Cde Khaya Moyo said another report was from the National Disciplinary Committee, which gave a detailed account on matters that had come before it since the 6th National People’s Congress last December.

“There was also a report from the National Disciplinary Committee, which indicated that since the last congress in December, 183 cases have been dealt with and some cases have been cleared,” he said.

“The report covered all the cases which had already been made public after every Politburo meeting since the December (2014) congress.

The categories constituted those who were expelled, suspended for five years, suspended for three years and those suspended for two years.”

Cde Khaya Moyo said all the suspensions were effective from January 1 2015, adding that six more cases were still pending.

He also said Cde Joseph Made, who is the Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, presented a comprehensive report on agriculture.

Cde Khaya Moyo said Cde Made told the Central Committee that Treasury had released $15 million to pay farmers who delivered maize to the Grain Marketing Board, starting with small scale farmers.

He said the Central Committee heard that tractors that were sourced from Brazil were mainly for communities, while individual farmers had to pay a reasonable fee for their use.

Cde Khaya Moyo said Cde Made told the Central Committee that more tractors were coming from Belarus and were expected in the country soon.

“Maize has also been imported from Zambia and is arriving at Bulawayo GMB depots for distribution to areas affected by drought in that region such as Matabeleland, parts of Midlands and Masvingo, said Cde Khaya Moyo.

Efforts are also being made to assist farmers to resuscitate the growing of cotton and Government is taking a leading role in that effort.

Cde Khaya Moyo said Cde Walter Chidhakwa gave a report on the state of the mining industry where he indicated that the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe was being transformed into an exploration company.

He said the party’s national commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere also briefed the Central Committee on the recent by-elections that were all won by Zanu-PF and spoke on the forthcoming ones in Marondera Central and Mbire on September 19.
