The entire British nation has flocked to social media to share their sorrow over Cilla Black’s death, aged 72. And multiple TV stars were among the many fans who expressed their grief at the loss of the showbiz legend on Sunday.

Actress Sheridan Smith, who portrayed Cilla in the acclaimed ITV drama last year, led the tributes on Twitter, calling her “the most remarkable woman”.

Sheridan, who was nominated for a BAFTA for her lead role in Cilla, posted a touching message on Twitter on Sunday evening: “I’m absolutely devastated to hear the tragic news about Cilla. She was the most remarkable woman, a true legend,” she wrote.

“She was so kind and helpful to me, it was a privilege to play her. My condolences go out to her family and all who loved her. She will be truly missed. X.”

Sir Cliff Richard also paid tribute to his close friend in a statement, writing: “Some people will always be with us and Cilla is one of those people. I will always think of her as outrageous, funny, incredibly gifted but above all full of heart.

“She was a very special person, and I have lost a very wonderful friend, I will miss her dearly. God bless her.”

Holly Willougby who presents Cilla’s former show Surprise Surprise took to Twitter to post her tribute: “So so sad to hear the news that we have lost one of my heroes, Cilla you were one incredible lady! Sending all my love to her family. X”.

She then added a picture of herself and the legendary presenter on the Surprise Surprise set with the sweet caption: “This photo is even more special to me now . . .”

Singer and broadcaster Des O’Connor (83) added: “If ever the words ‘The One and Only’ applied to anyone it was Cilla. She really was unique.

“As a friend she was always fun to be with, kind, generous, and caring, a very special lady. We will all miss you Cilla more than words can say.”

X Factor host Caroline Flack also shared her grief at the news as she tweeted: “Very sad news about Cilla Black. She was an inspiration to me growing up. x”

Meanwhile, actress Joan Collins wrote: “I am so sad and shocked by news about my good friend Cilla. She was a resplendent and rare talent. RIP #cillablack”.

Sir Paul McCartney released a statement, where he reflected on his long-term friendship with Cilla: “Such a shock to hear about Cilla’s passing. She was a lovely girl who infected everyone with her great spirit,” he said.

“From first meeting her as a cloakroom girl at the Cavern in Liverpool, to seeing her many times since, she always had a fun loving dignity that made her a great pleasure to be around.

“She had a fine distinctive voice and was always a bit of a laugh. It was a privilege to know and love her.”

Sir Bruce Forsyth told ITV News: “Cilla I’ll miss you. I still can’t believe it. I didn’t see much of her in the last few months at all but whenever I did see her she always had a laugh. And she’d always laugh mostly against herself. What a lovely performer, what a lovely lady. We’re going to miss you.”

Dale Winton also released an emotional statement to the MailOnline, saying: “I am truly saddened and shocked to hear this news. Cilla was a dear and close friend. Above all she was the most loyal person a friend could have. She was wonderful to be around, and caring, kind and happy.

“She was also a brilliant wife and mother. As her friend she would want everyone to know and appreciate how fantastic Bobby was for the 40 years they were together.

“They were inseparable 24 /7 for all of that time, and together they were like two swans side by side. She was a true ‘star’ and a genuine national icon. My thoughts and best wishes are with her beloved boys and family. We shall all miss her deeply, and I personally have lost a true, trusted and loyal friend.”

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini who worked with Cilla on Girls Aloud’s 2008 Christmas variety show The Girls Aloud Party, posted an emotional tweet which read: “So sad to learn of the passing of Cilla Black. A true national treasure who holds some of my favourite childhood memories #RIpCilla.”

Cheryl Baker tweeted: “Just heard the news about #cillablack. Can’t believe it! I worked for her on Surprise Surprise and out paths crossed many times. RIP Cilla x”.

Liverpool-born comedian Jimmy Tarbuck (75) said: “She was the total rags-to-riches story. She was Liverpool’s Cinderella, and she did go to the ball. What a career. She was the girl next door that everybody loved.”

BBC sports presenter Gabby Logan tweeted: “Cilla Black was the complete entertainer/host in an era when everyone watched TV. She was a trail blazer. RIP Cilla.”

Former TOWIE star Mark wright wrote: “Rip Cilla Black !! Shocking news !! Amazing [woman]. Loved her shows growing up too !! Xx”.

Cilla died of natural causes at her home in Spain, it was announced on Sunday morning when Spanish police confirmed the death of the showbiz legend.

A police spokesman said: “I can confirm the death of British national Priscilla White, aged 72. We are still awaiting autopsy results but everything at this stage is pointing towards her death being the result of natural causes.”

Cilla had over 50 years in showbusiness, had two number one singles, including “Anyone Who Had A Heart” and was championed by fellow Liverpudlian’s The Beatles.

She leaves three sons, Robert, Ben and Jack, as well as two grandchildren behind.

Cilla was most known for pioneering TV shows “Cilla”, “Blind Date” and “Surprise Surprise” and leaves behind her legacy in British television. Just last year Cilla received an outstanding contribution prize at the bafta Television Awards. – Dailymirror.
