THE 2015 edition of the prestigious Castle Tankard horse race was launched at Borrowdale Racecourse yesterday.

The event is scheduled for May 16 with $50 000 at stake. Delta Beverages marketing manager Patricia Murambinda said they are happy to be associated with Mashonaland Tuff Club in the 53rd edition of the Castle Tankard.

“Today is an important day in the country’s horse racing calendar as we launch the 53rd edition of the Castle Tankard promotion. The race is the first-ever sponsored horse race in Africa and remains the most prestigious in the country. The relationship of Castle Lager and horse racing back dates to 1904 and has left a formidable mark to reckon with in the horse racing fraternity,” Murambinda said. She said this year’s event will be bigger and better and go under the theme “Perfection in Motion”.

“This year’s event will be bigger and better as it will come with consumer and trader promotion,” said Murambinda. Brian Black, the MTC chairman, said they were grateful for Delta’s partnership.

“We recognise that this race stands as a taste of the strength of our relationships,” said Black.

“The race has a history that we cannot only measure in terms of the length of time but has also the commercial significance that is deep rooted in business. That the business environment is strained is a fact and most businesses have long engaged in survival mode. “We are happy for our partners’ continued investment into the development of horse racing.

“We will endeavour to compliment efforts and ensure the business objectives of the race are met,” Black said.
