A Harare Civil Court magistrate on Monday struck off the roll the matter in which Dr Mathias Mukona was being sued for maintenance by his wife Doreen.Magistrate Mrs Ruth Kamangira struck the matter off the roll after Mrs Doreen Mukona failed to turn up at the court.

In her application, Doreen was claiming $2 000 per month for the upkeep of their three children.

Dr Mukona, who is a student at Sekuru Kaguvi Eye Hospital at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital, was being accused of neglecting their three minor children.

In her application, Doreen said she married Dr Mukona on February 21, 2005 and the marriage still subsisted.

“From July 2011 when the respondent left our matrimonial home to live with another woman, he stopped adequately providing for me and the three minor children,” read part of Doreen’s application.

She said Dr Mukona’s contribution had not only become erratic, but drastically much less than before.

“He now only provides accommodation through an official residence, pays school and crèche fees and provides transport to and from school and crèche,” Doreen said.

She indicated that Dr Mukona was earning enough to contribute $2 000 per month for their three minor children.

However, Dr Mukona turned up for court on Monday, but Doreen was in no show, prompting the magistrate to remove the matter from the court roll.

In earlier stories published on Saturday and Monday, the names and ages of Dr Mukona’s minor children were published.

The discomfort it caused to him is regretted.

Meanwhile, upcoming Zim dancehall artiste Albert Chirozva aka Muffcat was yesterday summoned to the Harare Civil Court by his wife who is claiming $390 for the upkeep of their two children.

Alice Chitombo claimed the artiste was neglecting their two children yet he was employed as a musician.

“He is failing to provide food, clothes, school fees, rentals and medication for the children,” she said.

Chitombo told magistrate Mr Trevor Nyatsanza that Chirozva was holding shows and getting $150 per week.

“He is employed at Victory Mind Studios and is also a producer realising $1 500 a month.”

Chitombo said Chirozva was capable of paying the $390 considering his monthly earnings.

“We started living together as husband and wife in 2008 when I was 16 years,” said Chitombo.

Chirozva offered to pay $80 saying he was unable to contribute $390 per month.

“I am an upcoming artiste and I do not have fixed shows but I can afford to contribute $80 for the two children per month,” he said.

Mr Nyatsanza ordered Chirozva to pay $80 per month for the two children.
