NEWLY-PROMOTED Cargo Carriers believe they have what it takes to compete in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League when the new season kicks-off.

Club secretary-general, Trust Nzou, said they will be out to compete in their debut season.

“We have started preparing and so far everything is on course. We have retained 15 players from those who got us into Division One.

“Right now we are making assessments to have 10 more players join the club because we offloaded some of the players we had and some of them are now in our developmental squad, it’s more like a reserve side.

“Most of those players are juniors around the age of 16.

“By the first of March we would be done with our selection. We want to have an impact in the league, we want to bring in a new type of football and we believe with the professionalism that carried us to Division One we will do well.

“I think our team is not built on individual effort but it’s built on collective effort. Our aim is to finish in the top eight, but basically you cannot conclude how things will go but at the moment our aim is to finish in the top eight since it is our first season.

“The second year of our campaign we want the championship,” said Nzou.

The Cargo Carriers secretary-general said they were not going for any high profile players as they seek to beef up their club.

“We are taking those unknown names and we believe we will build a reputable team from that. When we started with the team in Division Two we worked with players who were virtually not known and they were able to carry us into Division One.

“So we believe in carrying on with that philosophy.

“As of now we are financially stable, we are going into partnerships with other partners and I think we can go all the way. At the moment we are fully financed by Cargo Carriers International but we will be going into partnership with other partners,” said Nzou.

The club was formed in 2013 and made their first appearance in Harare Province’s Division Two the same year.

Meanwhile, Gunners coach, Kudakwashe Masaraure, revealed yesterday that five of their players have not yet reported for camp.

The five are Moses Demera, captain Tendai Huwa, Justice Jangano, Prosper Chigumba and Lloyd Musakusi.

“So far no one has indicated that they want to leave, but we have some players that have been training with other clubs but the guys have been insisting that they are coming back.

“If they leave there will be a bit of pressure but we can always find players that are equally good,” said Masaraure.

Gunners began their pre-season preparations last week.
