AFTER playing their last three league matches in Harare, CAPS United will be hoping that a change of environment can bring them luck when they travel to Gweru to meet Chapungu at Ascot on Sunday. CAPS United failed to garner full points in their last two matches and are now under growing pressure to win.

Their demanding fans also want them to keep apace with the leading pack. Yesterday under-pressure CAPS United coach Mark Mathe said they were now banking on their away record to bounce back to winning ways. Mathe was, however, quick to add that they are cautious as they face a stubborn and unpredictable Chapungu, who have a tendency of giving a tough time to visiting teams at Ascot.

But CAPS Unietd could benefit from the fact that the airmen have also been struggling at home and dropped a lot of points. It has been nine matches without a victory for Chapungu their last win being on May 23 at Ascot against the Flame Lily. But Mathe is not banking on that and insists that they are still a good side.

“Our statistics show that we have been good playing outside Harare, not that we are saying there is something wrong playing in Harare, we believe with time we will get it right. “We have been lacking the right composure, not using right techniques and making the right decisions and if we correct that, goals will come,” Mathe said.

CAPS United skipper Moses Muchenje said they have not lost hope and they are still dreaming of a league title. With 10 points behind pacesetters Chicken Inn, the new CAPS United skipper believes they are still have the chance. Muchenje also rubbished suggestions that CAPS United may have been cursed. He has dismissed as cheap talk that the team is cursed hence they are failing to collect maximum points.

“Since I became the captain things have not been rosy but we will come good. Our chances of finishing in top four are very are high. We are even looking at winning the championship as the other top teams have been losing some points and it is still open but what is important now is to win our remaining matches.

“We are not even listening to talk that someone might have cast a bad spell on us and that is the reason we are missing chances. “As a team we don’t believe in all those stories and we believe in God, we just need to correct our mistakes and convert some of the chances that we are missing,” Muchenje said. CAPS United will, however, be without Dominic Mukandi, Valentine Musarurwa and George Nyirenda who are nursing injuries.Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino, who like Mathe has seen his team take a dip in form, reckoned that the airmen have just been unlucky.

Nyikadzino said he was also bracing for a tough afternoon noting that “CAPS United are one of the biggest clubs in the country’’. “Of late, we haven’t been playing well, and have had many draws and defeats. But CAPS United are a big club and we expect a tough match. “They are one of the biggest clubs and we are not underrating them at all. “In terms of attitude, character and determination we haven’t changed a bit and we have been dominating play in our matches but failing to capitalise on our chances.”
