“Entries are officially open for Zimbabwean gospel musicians in Zimbabwe and the diaspora. The competition includes several awards — each artiste may enter in one or more categories of their choice.” Preparations for the 2016 edition of the Permican Awards are on with organisers now calling for nominees’ submission from gospel musicians. The ceremony will be held on October 25 at the Rainbow Towers.

Permican stands for Prophet Emmanuel and Ruth Makandiwa Invitational Concert Awards Night and will be hosted by Christ Television in honour of Zimbabwean gospel musicians who evangelise through music.

In an interview with show organiser, spokesperson Wilma Nhapi said there are 17 categories up for grabs in this year’s selection.

“This year, Christ Television celebrates three years and with that in mind we are not only celebrating, but embracing excellence with Zimbabwean gospel musicians through the Permican Awards. The awards are a product of Christ TV since September 20, 2014, on our first anniversary,” he said.

Nhapi said to qualify for the awards, Zimbabwean artistes or gospel musicians will have to submit their entries for consideration.

“Entries are officially open for Zimbabwean gospel musicians in Zimbabwe and the diaspora. The competition includes several awards — each artiste may enter in one or more categories of their choice. However, Radio stations will be participating in the nomination process as they are well versed with renowned Zimbabwean gospel artistes,” he said.

He said the song or songs for the competition must have been released between January 1, 2015 and June 2016.

“The songs must be of quality, not damaged and readable on any drive. Submissions deadline is August 15 2016. Nominees will be announced in the media on September 1, 2016. Voting will be done through an SMS platform,” he said.

Nhapi said the Legendary Award will not be voted for and all winners will be awarded with trophies.

Last year Reverend Togarepi Tapera Chivaviro scooped three awards in categories — Song of The Year Award (2015) for his track “Ebenezer”, Songwriter of the Year Award and Best Video Producer of the Year at a colourful ceremony that was attended by hundreds of people from around Zimbabwe.

Other musicians who were honoured on the night included Michael Mahendere, who received the Best Male Artiste and Best Album of the Year Award and Charles Charamba, who walked away with the Legend of the Year Award.

South African award winning gospel singer Loyiso Bala was the guest artiste.
