A Zvishavane-based businessman has mobilised over 200 000 tonnes of cement and roofing material for donation to four schools in his rural area. The entrepreneur, Mr Dumezweni Mpofu, has since allocated the donation to the schools in Mapanzure.

One of the schools earmarked to benefit from the gesture is Mapazuli Primary, whose roof was blown off by storms last year. In an interview on the sidelines of the handover of the donated material at Mapazuli Primary School recently, Mr Mpofu, who runs a chain of businesses in Zvishavane, said he was ploughing back to the community.

“I grew up in Zvishavane rural, so I just decided to plough back to the community which nurtured me. Mapazuli pupils were learning in the open after the school roof was blown away by violent storms. I also donated cement for the construction of another block at Lundui Primary. At Dambudzo Secondary, I donated some roofing material,” he said.

Headman Bobby Dzviti, who accepted the donation on behalf of Chief Mapanzure, thanked Mr Mpofu for remembering his roots.

“It’s a commitment, which many successful people fail to fulfil. To go back to your roots and make meaningful contribution like this is surely commendable,” he said.
