OUAGADOUGOU – Transitional authorities in Burkina Faso have suspended the political party of the president who was forced from power earlier this year.Monday’s decision came a day before the former ruling party planned a press conference to announce its comeback.

Longtime President Blaise Compaore fled into exile in October. His bid to amend the constitution so he could seek yet another term in office prompted mass protests that turned violent and left at least two dozen people dead.

Monday’s warrant does not say how long Compaore’s party is being suspended for in the landlocked West African nation.

Sadou Sidibe, secretary general of the country’s ministry of territorial administration and security, said the party can file a complaint in court to challenge the decision. – AP
