COMMANDO Bullets finally remembered how to win when they beat Starbill at Rufaro in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league yesterday at Rufaro to move four places up the ladder from position 16.

They got the crucial goal from Qqobile Mafu in the 53rd minute when he received a cross from Sylvester Karinda from the left and headed the ball into the back of the net to give his side the much-needed win.

Commando had gone for two months without registering a win and their best result has been a draw and yesterday’s victory was a boost to the team’s confidence.

Both teams created several scoring opportunities but it was Commando who emerged the best team of the day and their team manager, John Mandaza, was a happy man and applauded his charges for their efforts.

“It was a long struggle, we managed to win today and we are happy. The time has come for us to produce results and everyone was waiting for this win. We were trying by all means as coaches and players for our house to be in order and everything worked out.

“The chairman motivated the players as he promised some incentives for this win,” said Mandaza.
Starbill assistant coach, Prince Kadewere, said lucky was not on their side and they are just going through a bad patch “but it will come to pass”.

“I think basically the guys played well. We are just going through a bad phase but they are doing well. We are happy as coaches that they are playing according to instructions.

“In the game of football there are three results, we lost but the good thing is the players are responding well,” said Kadewere.
In matches played on Saturday, Gunners shot to the top of the table following a 3-0 win over Royal Classic at Tsungubvi.

Gunners got their goals from Jonah Chitereki in the ninth minute and MacDonald Motsi, six minutes later.  Codius Siwempi weighed in with another goal in the 66th minute to seal the victory.

The match between DC Academy and Blue Swallows was postponed to a date yet to be announced.
