BUFFALOES vice captain Itai Chiwara’s contract with the club is lapsing at the end of the season, but the nomadic goalkeeper wants to ensure that he plays a big part in assisting the Mutare soldiers to retain their Premiership status before deciding on his future.
Chiwara said yesterday his immediate task was to work for the team and help Moses Chunga’s men to collect enough points in their last five matches that would guarantee their survival.

A former CAPS United and Motor Action goalkeeper, Chiwara said any extension of his contract would be determined by Watungwa Watungwa’s survival in the elite league.

On Sunday, Buffaloes will play Harare City, who are in buoyant mood after they stormed into the final of the Chibuku Super Cup at the expense of Highlanders.

Buffaloes won the reverse fixture 1-0 at Rufaro early in the season and Chiwara hopes they can now utilise home advantage to collect six points over the Sunshine City Boys.

“My contract at Buffaloes is coming to an end in December and I do not know if I will renew it. A lot will depend on the offers I could get from elsewhere, but my immediate aim now is to help the team survive relegation.

“We need to collect points in all the matches because right now we are not yet safe,” said Chiwara.
Going into the match on Sunday at Sakubva, Buffaloes are ninth on the table with 33 points while Harare City are one rung above on 34.
“I know City will come strongly because they won their last game against Highlanders, but we have to work hard to get a result.

“Generally we have been doing well at home and we should have shared the spoils with Dynamos in the last game but we lost.
“I think a draw would have been a fair result. However, my defenders had a lapse in concentration and I was beaten,” said Chiwara.

Chiwara joined the Mutare-based side from Motor Action and had been competing for a starting place with Blessing Mandimutsira.
