Many local viewers can kiss goodbye to “Generations” and “Muvhango” again, following a new development that will see Blue Ocean Satellite Television changing from free-to-air to pay-per-view channel from the next few days.
The station, which has been offline for the past two days, announced that negotiations with authorities were underway for the licence’s amendment.

“Bostv has started the migration from a free-to-air channel to pay-per-view platform. The cost shall be affordable as the channel seeks to retain and grow its viewership. In keeping with indigenisation, the channel seeks to export brand Zimbabwe to the rest of the world with minimal costs to local citizens,” said marketing executive Chenai Nyakunengwa.

While the move might be met with hard feelings among locals as was the case with the scrambling of South African and Botswana channels last year, the station maintains the development will bring more good than bad.

“It will be huge, allowing job creation as we will have Bostv Lifestyle, Bostv Gospel, Bostv sport to mention but a few,” she said.

Bostv is expected to go back on air on a date to be announced when things are in place and special decoders will be introduced to customers.

“The transition will be smooth and seamless. We assure our valued viewers that every effort is being made to ensure a timeous return to normal programming.

“Local filmmakers, artistes and advertisers need not to panic. Bostv decoders will be made available at low prices once negations are over.
“Flexible terms like higher purchase and credit lines shall be availed to ensure that they are available to everyone.”
