CAIRO. — A bomb attack north of the Egyptian capital city of Cairo has killed two military cadets amid rising assaults on security forces in the North African country.

Police officials said the bombing in the Nile Valley city of Kafr al-Sheikh also wounded 10 people yesterday.

The military cadets were reportedly waiting to get on a bus outside the city’s football stadium when the deadly attack was carried out.

The bombing came a day after Egypt’s MENA news agency reported that gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead a policeman guarding a checkpoint outside Cairo.

According to security sources, the shooting in Shibeen al-Qanatar, north of the capital, left two other policemen injured.

Since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s former democratically-elected president, in July 2013, attacks on security forces have increased, especially in the restive Sinai Peninsula, which has long been considered a safe haven for gunmen, who use the region as a base for their acts of terror.

Security officials confirmed on April 13 that one soldier was killed when gunmen opened fire on a checkpoint in Sinai near the border with the Gaza Strip—Press TV.
