JOHANNESBURG. — Springbok captain Jean de Villiers pronounced his team good enough to topple defending World Rugby Champions New Zealand, saying it was only “a matter of time before it happened.”The two sides – ranked one and two in world rugby – meet in another epic battle at Ellis Park this weekend in the final match for both in this year’s Castle Lager Rugby Championship. Asked how important it is for the Boks to finally tick the one box that has eluded them thus far, De Villiers said the team weren’t dwelling on the fact they hadn’t beaten their greatest rivals under Heyneke Meyer, but rather were building confidence for when that moment will come.

“I think for the confidence it will do us really good, but I truly believe we are good enough to beat them,” De Villiers explained. The fact we’re playing at Ellis Park, it is a great stadium, especially to get the crowd behind you. For us going forward we need to get over that barrier. It is much easier said than done, but we do believe we can do it. In the past things have happened and we came close and didn’t get the result. At some stage that will change…” — Supersport.com.
