A HARARE man appeared in court last Friday for allegedly masquerading as a taxi driver and robbing unsuspecting passengers of their cash and valuables.
Alexio Kagore (23) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo, who remanded him in custody to November 5.
Kagore was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira alleged that Kagore teamed up with three accomplices John Nyashanu (not Newsday political editor), Leon Nyakudirwa and Tawanda Gudo and connived to rob people they offered transport.

It is alleged that the four drove around in a silver Toyota Spacio registration ACT 4086 armed with a pistol, knife and knobkerrie.
It is the State’s case that on September 13 at around 10pm, Pardon Chimbuya was at the corner of Samora Machel Avenue and Fifth Street seeking transport to Eastlea.

The four, who were in a Spacio, approached Chimbuya and offered him transport pretending that they were going to Eastlea.
Along the way, Kagore allegedly drew out a pistol while his two colleagues seated at the back drew out a knife and knobkerrie.
They allegedly robbed Chimbuya of an HP laptop, a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 cellphone and US$250 cash, before dumping him.
Chimbuya later made a report to the police.

On September 21 Kagore was spotted by police officers driving the Spacio with his accomplices on board.
A high speed chase ensued which forced him and his accomplices to abandon the vehicle and take to their heels. Kagore was arrested on October 20 after police were tipped-off by members of the public.
