A 32-year-old Harare man raped a 74-year-old granny at knife-point after misrepresenting to her that he was a police officer and wanted to search her house for kachasu, an illegal distilled beverage. Tobias Munyaradzi from Epworth was facing rape and theft charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.

He was remanded in custody and ordered to approach the High Court for bail. Allegations are that on April 1 this year at around 1am, Munyaradzi proceeded to the granny’s house while she was asleep and knocked on the door.

The court heard that the woman asked Munyaradzi to identify himself and he replied that he was a police officer claiming that he wanted to search her house for kachasu since the old woman was in the business of distilling and selling it.

It is alleged that the old woman refused to open the door saying she was naked but Munyaradzi insisted that she open. He started banging and kicking the door and out of fear the woman opened and Munyaradzi stormed into the house armed with a knife.

It is the State’s case that Munyaradzi ordered the old woman to lie on her bed but she refused. The court heard that this infuriated Munyaradzi who then threw the old woman on the bed ordering her to suck his manhood which she refused to do.

It is alleged that Munyaradzi forcibly inserted his manhood into her mouth before threatening to strike her with a shovel if she refused to be intimate with him. It is alleged that Munyaradzi went on to rape the old woman before stealing $10 and a Nokia cell- phone.

A report was made to the police leading to Munyaradzi’s arrest.
