A DINNER dance which was meant to get the Bob@90 Super Cup into full swing was cancelled last night and it’s now unlikely that it will be held this year. The organisers of the football tournament had proposed a dinner dance in Harare but the event suffered still birth. Spokesperson for the Bob Super Cup organising committee, Charles Mabika, said “some unforeseen challenges” had forced them to call off the function.

“We have unfortunately cancelled the dinner dance after some unforeseen challenges came along. However, the other event on the programme will continue with the elimination match between Highlanders and Harare City at Barbourfields on Sunday,” said Mabika.

The winner between Bosso and Harare City will then play title holders Dynamos in the final scheduled for Rufaro on February 23.

Now in its fourth edition, this year’s Bob Super Cup has a new format that has seen Dynamos getting a bye after only three teams were invited to participate. Last year, Dynamos and Highlanders played over a two-legged final while in 2011 four clubs — FC Platinum, Hwange, Dynamos and Motor Action — took part in the same tournament.

Dynamos and CAPS United played a one-off final in the inaugural Bob@87 Super Cup meant to celebrate the birthday of President Mugabe on February 21 through football.
Besides the football event, other sporting disciplines like basketball, golf and athletics also host their own celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s birthday.
