RELEGATION alarm bells are now ringing louder in Hwange after the coalminers once again disappointed their fans with another home loss to visiting Black Rhinos in a Castle Lager Premier League match in a sizzling summer temperatures at the Colliery yesterday. Bustling striker Lot Chiwunga’s brace made all the difference leaving Rhinos to celebrate wildly after a nine-match win-less league run that had seen the soldiers drop from the top into the relegation zone.

While Rhinos celebrated ending their rough patch, there was no joy once again for the home fans who left the stadium stunned as it dawned on them only a miracle could now save Chipangano who have been dishing points at home and away in each passing game. What is more painful for the Hwange fans is that they are losing games after some decent performances.

Yesterday they had a bright start to the game with youthful striker Delic Murimba and midfielder Nathan Ziwini doing all the running at the Rhinos defence but the final pass proved to be their biggest let down. Murimba missed a glorious opportunity in the 17th minute when he latched on to a good ball from Ziwini. The soldiers came back for the last half a changed side with some inspirational play revolving around veteran forward Benjamin Marere who was a handful for the Hwange defenders.

In the 58th minute, Marere made a solo run through the middle of the defence and released Jameson Mukombwe whose delicate cross was met with a flashing Chiwunga header. With Hwange fans already trooping home in time added on, Chiwunga drove another dagger into their hearts with another header after coming to the end of substitute defender Sydney Linyama’s inviting cross.

“I am disappointed after another game where we play well but at the end of the day we concede soft goals and lose matches. We have to win the home game on Sunday to continue having slim hopes to survive,” said Hwange coach Bigboy Mawiwi. Rhinos coach Stanford “Stix’’ M’tizwa was all smiles. “This is refreshing as we had gone for a long win-less spell and I hope we can build from this positive outcome to fight for a decent finish at the end of the season,” said M’tizwa.
