Bindura Arts Festival is one platform that has brought light to unheralded artists from Mashonaland Central Province. Names that quickly come to mind are the likes of Patso and Rhythm Africa, Nice Time, Swerengoma Arts Production, Almaxton and dancehall chanter Caveman among others who have benefited from the festival.

Sadly, last year the event could not see the light of the day as sponsors could not fulfil their promises.

The organisers took to social networks platforms to announce that the festival will be running from September 26 and will be bigger and better.

This comes after they announced that they moved the three day event from March to September.

One of the organisers highlighted that the festival was a big event that needed adequate funding and proper planning.

“A number of people including the community benefit from this festival and we need to organise it properly so that it becomes a successful event,” he said.

Previously HIV and Aids workshops have been conducted at the festival.

Founder and chairman of the festival Umtali Saidi said he was out of the country and that was the reason why they moved the dates to September 26.

Saidi announced the actual dates on the official festival Facebook page.

“I was out of the country for a long time and that is the main reason why we moved our dates to September 26,” he said.

He said they have already started preparations for the festival. Saidi said their main aim was to bring cultural diversity and they have been successful in the past four years they have been running the festival.

“Despite all the hitches and glitches the objective of putting Bindura on the arts map was indeed achieved and we are looking forward to have a bigger event this year to confirm our ability to enhance cultural exchange,” he said.

The festival presents music, dance, theatre and visual arts.
