After almost five years since he announced his arrival on the music scene, Biggie Tembo Junior has now released his second album in a bid to keep jiti music alive.
Just like many children of former great musicians who find it difficult to fit in their iconic father’s shoes, Biggie Junior admitted that his Bhundu Crew was going through tough times.

“We are going to get there but we have been affected by lack of promotion. A number of promoters seem to neglect upcoming musicians and as a result we have been unable to stage as much shows as we would have wanted,” said Biggie Jnr.

He allayed fears that he was following the same path as other musicians’ children who went into obscurity soon after they appeared on the scene.

“The long silence has actually given us time to come up with a polished act. We did not want a situation whereby the new release fails to make any impact on the market so we took our time to record,” he explained.

The new release, “Nhaka” has eight tracks which include “Nherera”, “Dindingwe” as well as a remake of the hit “Chitima Nditakure” among others.

Biggie Jnr said although promoters contributed immensely to his group’s long silence the group has enough experience to help them to stay afloat.

“We have been doing a number of shows around but we have had our setbacks like other upcoming musicians in securing gigs on bigger stages but we do hope promoters will recognise our potential this time around and give us the opportunity to shine on a bigger stage.

“On the other hand we have enough talent and experience in our group because we have in our ranks artists who have worked with my late father and these include Kurauone Mbofana and Claytt M’doni who had a stint with the original Bhundu Boys,” he said.

Biggie Jnr also revealed that he had already started working on a DVD compilation for the new album which will also feature a number of songs from his first album “Rwendo” as well as from the latest album.
