Minister Bhasikiti

Zanu-PF Politburo member Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, who is linked to Vice President Joice Mujuru’s bid to oust President Mugabe, has expressed nostalgia for the inclusive Government saying it worked better than the all Zanu-PF Government riven by factional fighting. The inclusive Government brought together Zanu-PF, MDC-T and the MDC in 200s9 in the wake of the March 2008 disputed elections but was largely deemed dysfunctional for its entire lifespan as the leadership shuttled from one mediation summit to another which makes Cde Bhasikiti’s nostalgic reference quite ironic.

According to the latest edition of the Masvingo Mirror newspaper, Cde Bhasikiti, who is also Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, hankered after the inclusive Government.
Speaking at a family event organised by the Family of God Church in Masvingo this week, Cde Bhasikiti was quoted saying it was unbelievable that Zanu-PF whose members could work well with the MDC-T of Tsvangirai and (MDC of) Arthur Mutambara in the inclusive Government can now not work among themselves.

“We won the elections and we are one party but the fights that we now witness are far worse than those we saw when we were in Government with Tsvangirai,” said Bhasikiti.
“If we were united with Tsvangirai yesterday and could not find problems with it towards the development of the nation, why can’t we do the same today as a party so that we can flow together as a nation?” he said. “If self interests and disunity continue to impede, we will fail to mend what has been lost by the family.”

Cde Bhasikiti’s utterances dovetail with reports that he was part of the clique aligned to VP Mujuru that was opposed to the holding of the harmonised elections that consigned the MDC-T to the political dustbin.
