Trying so hard every day to fit in to the tune of life the others where living at work but still failed. Zviko, you need to know one thing in life and that is there is nothing as special as being original. When you begin to adjust yourself to fit into a wave of people living their life, you are on a track to destruction.

You have to discover yourself before you can be yourself — it’s sad that three quarters of the people living here on earth have no idea who they are because others are defined by the religion they practice, others by the intellectual knowledge they gathered, others by the environment they were born into.

Zviko, how are you going to embrace the greatness of life when you are strangled by the thick layer of confusion in the ignorance of self consciousness? Identity is beyond the name you are given — identity is self actualisation, coming to terms with the knowledge of your existence. The majorities of our people are passive and live in a systematic way that was designed during slavery. The liberation war might have freed us from the oppression of white rule but Zviko, you know your mind is still caged in the slave era.

This is why a rich person is referred to as murungu (white person) this is all because our minds are trapped in bondage. The fact that school was made available to open one’s mind to realise their intellectual capacity and practice the brain — it got to Africa differently filled with different intentions. People were taught white men traditions to totally erase the Zimbabwean culture — not to say school was bad but the education that we got was un-educating us about identity.

Zviko, because of that hip-hop or rap artiste called Lil Wayne, you now dress up in baggy jeans and an African attire top — displaying true confusion of origin.

I know we may not be able to grasp all that constitutes our culture but at least you have to discover yourself. Come on Zviko try and not to move with the masses — sit down and find out who you are, what you are, that is the first great step towards emancipation of the mind. Change comes only when know what needs to be changed — so when you get to understand and acknowledge your presence then and only then can you shape your life.

Your character is not sound and rooted because you have no idea who you are Zviko. How are you going to get hired? How are you going to make money? How are you going to have anyone pay attention to you? All the mentioned questions are easy to answer — get acquainted with yourself — get to know yourself.

If you don’t allow yourself to find out about yourself then people will define you and your life takes up the nature of that description. Refuse to be a zombie in life – get to know who you are. There is no way you can get to know who you are and be intimidated by the future. Self knowledge creates an attractive boldness with you – don’t let the world misjudge you. Get on it and be aware of yourself!
