Zimbabwe Republic Police officers have been urged to carry out their duties professionally and to be accountable to local communities. Speaking last week at a handover ceremony of an Isuzu truck worth $12 600 and a Ford Ranger repaired at a total cost of $7 700, Senior Assistant Commissioner Godfrey Munyonga urged members of the force to be proficient and responsible.

The two donations were made by CID Braeside Crime Consultative Committee and Theft From Cars (Harare) Crime Consultative Committee, respectively.

“To CID Braeside and CID Theft From Car members, I say go forth and work hard as results are the best way to show your appreciation for these donations,” said Snr Asst Comm Munyonga.

“Use the vehicles to serve and safeguard peace and stability in Braeside and Greater Harare. Carry out your duties professionally and with accountability.

“Who are we not to be successful in our policing endeavours with such kind of favour bestowed on us? Indeed, the two committees saw it fit to play their role in the fight against crime and made these valuable donations.”

Snr Asst Comm Munyonga said interventions by the two committees were a testimony of the great cooperation that existed between the police and the community.

“This event shows that we have reached the highest level of maturity in our cooperation as the police and the community and we are now reaping the fruits of our union,” he said.

CID Theft From Cars Crime Consultative Committee chairperson Mr McDonald Chinyoka said the initiative would ensure an improvement on ZRP operational efficiency.

“I hope the motor vehicle will go a long way in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the station in its daily operations,” he said.

CID Braeside Crime Consultative Committee chairperson Mr Andrew Chirimumimba said they realised that ageing vehicles were incapacitating the operations of the organisation.
