Video of popular comedian Baba Tencen that was shot while he was at the recent Alick Macheso show in South Africa has gone viral recording over 40 000 views in less than a day. On the video clip the comedian who is popular with his chants “Kuripwa Kugara” and “Hapana Zvaungandiita” is seen dancing alongside the sungura king before cracking a litany of jokes.During the show he went on stage with a two-litre bottle of Coke and a loaf of bread.

“Takahwa kuti Macheso wakabuditsa saka huyai kuno tikai aiwa hatiuyeko iye ndiye unouya kuno tigozvidyira tichizvinwira ungatidini? (We were told that Macheso released a new album so we should go there but we told them that he would come here and we enjoy)” he said much to the delight of the fans.

Baba Tencen said although he was not part of the programme Macheso managed to give him a chance to crack some jokes on stage. “Comedy and music are two art disciplines that complement each other. We have to work together as artists and by so doing stand-up comedy will eventually develop,” he said.

The comedian has become the darling of many with his skits taking social media by storm. He recently received money from a local businessman Wicknel Chivhayo. Macheso’s publicist Tich Makahamadze said it was the wish of his boss to work with artists from different disciplines.

“He has no limits and his wish is to work with all the artists. We are happy that Baba Tencen managed to come and crack his jokes to our fans,” he said. Makamadze called on other local comedians to come and have time at some of their shows exhibiting their talents.

“We are having a welcome back at Dandaro Inn on Thursday and other shows across the country so artists should come and have time to interact with people. We don’t have limits comedy, music and dancers,” he said.

Comedians have utilized social media and in Zimbabwe Bus Stop TV, PO Box , Zmbezi TV and comedians like Dov Vikela Carl Joshua Ncube championing the development of comedy on social media.
