National Arts Council deputy director Nicholas Moyo has applauded organisers of the Harare Agricultural Show Shut-down Gig that will be held at Harare Civic Centre Grounds on Saturday for considering the rarely-used venue for a commercial show.
Organisers of the show, Divine Assignments, have fenced part of the spacious grounds (also known as Guard Alert Training Ground) located outside the Exhibition Park near Lunar Park to create a commercial venue for the dancehall show.

The new venue was officially launched yesterday and Moyo said the move was positive in the development of music at large.
“Zimbabweans are hungry for entertainment and the coming of this venue is welcome.

“I hope the first show will go well,” he said.
He encouraged artistes to work with promoters in building the industry and urged dancehall musicians to be disciplined.

“They must create a good image for themselves and shun violence.
“They should help promoters to build the industry for the benefit of the greater arts sector,” he said.

Among those who attended the official launch were Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head of corporate affairs Sugar Chagonda, music critic Fred Zindi and several artistes including Jah Prayzah, Romeo Gasa, Somandla Ndebele, Lady Squanda, Guspy Warrior, Ricky Fire and the newly crowed Miss Utakatataka Caren Chimonyo.

Some of the names to feature on stage are Soul Jah Love, Kinnah, Tocky Vibes, Lady Squanda, Killer T, Guspy Warrior, King Shaddy, Rikcy Fire, Jay Cee, Lipsy, Crystal, Qonfused  as well as entertainment crews Chill Spot and Judgement Yard, Silverstone, Mighty Duks. There will also be a clash contest for “clarks” dancers.
Biggie Chinoperekwei of Divine Assignments said they have decided to have an inaugural show at the place.

“It is open to every promoter but we are the ones who will have an inaugural show that will be held on Saturday,” he said.
He added that they have decided to put up the show to entertain young music lovers that usually throng the environs of the Harare Agricultural Show on the last day of the agric showcase.

“The last day of the agricultural show is usually a hive of activity.
“Young people take the opportunity to enjoy themselves on this day and venues around the Exhibition Park usually host big shows,” he said.

“We chose Harare Civic Centre Grounds because of the venue’s proximity to the showgrounds and we are certain that this outdoor event would be a memorable event.
“We have engaged various security organisations to make sure the situation does not get out of control because we are anticipating huge numbers at the show.”

The closing day of the Harare Agricultural Show has always been eventful and the dancehall show is likely to be among the best shut-down shows of the show and a large crowd of revellers is expected.
