Chiedza Brown

Artistes gathered at Alliance Francaise on Tuesday for a concert dubbed “Bring Chiedza Home” which was meant to raise funds for the repatriation of Chiedza Brown’s body from the United States.

Chiedza is daughter to late musicians Chiwoniso Maraire and Andy Brown and she died in the United States about two weeks ago. Artistes and friends attended the event to offer their support to the Brown and Maraire families.

“We gather here to offer our support to the Brown and Maraire families in this time of sorrow, and we are here to raise funds so that the body of Chiedza can be brought home for burial,” said Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa

The “Bring Chiedza Home” concert has managed to raise close to $4 000 from the $12 000 that is wanted to enable the young lady’s body to be brought to Zimbabwe where she is expected to be buried in Mberengwa next to her father Andy Brown.

Ammara Brown the sister broke down during her speech. She said she was grateful for the support that her friends and family have offered in this time of agony.

“I really want to say thank you everyone, artistes, friends and fans alike, who came out to donate last night.

“No words can mirror my gratitude. May the Almighty bless you all abundantly,” said Ammara.

Fellow musician Jah Prayzah also thanked the people for coming at the concert.

“I would like to thank you all guys for coming at this special concert to offer your support.

“This shows how united we all are, I’m touched by your support and may the Brown and Maraire families find strength during this time of sadness,” said Jah Prayzah

Many artistes who include Roki, BaShupi, Chikwata 263, Alexio Kawara, Vee Mukarati, Sebastain Magacha, Victor Kunonga, Prudence Katomeni, Cynthia Mare and Hope Masike among others performed on the night.

However, there are reports that Chiedza’s body might be cremated in the US and ashes brought home for burial.
