The Zimbabwe Defence Forces will not compromise its training standards despite the economic challenges facing the army, a top army official has said. Brigadier General Shailet Moyo, who is responsible for administration at the Zimbabwe National Army headquarters, said this last Friday at a graduation ceremony of 88 junior non-commissioned members of the ZNA who had completed a 14-week training course in general squad drill and small arms at Inkomo Barracks.

“With or without challenges we shall never compromise on our training standards,” she said. “There is no room to compromise on our integrity and the ZDF will strive to maintain highest standards of training at all times so as to effectively uphold its constitutional mandate of safeguarding the country`s territorial integrity and national interests.”

Brig Gen Moyo, said discipline and professionalism – the hallmarks of a professional army, could only be inculcated through continuous training.

“It is only through training that we can remain a professional army which has already set a reputable operational history within and beyond our borders,” she said.

She challenged members of the defence forces to maintain high standards of discipline when discharging their duties and in their social lives.

“Discipline is the lifeblood of any professional army hence this organisation shall not in any way compromise on indiscipline,” she said.
