IT’S a repeat of last year’s showdown in the Arenel Harare Metropolitan Board Junior Tennis final in the Under-18 boys final at Harare Sports Club today

The event’s curtain will come down today with Richard Ngwarwi taking on Andrew Kunaka in the Under-18 singles final. Ngwarwi booked his place in the final showdown by defeating Alesha Chikanda 6-4, 6-0 while Kunaka beat Brett Hounsell 6-3, 6-4 in the other semi-final.

Ngwarwi, who lost last year’s final, believes he is now ready to take the big step to victory.

“Last time I was a bit nervous and aggressive and so I will try and control that this time around. He is a good player but I am going to do my best to try and win the event. He has managed to beat me but I have improved and I hope to do well. “The final can go either way but I have been training hard and I think this time it’s my chance and I am definitely going to win,” said Ngwarwi.

Kunaka believes he will be under pressure to win today. “Pressure is on my side as I defeated him in two straight sets in the previous final, so he is coming prepared for the game.

“But I am ready for the final and I hope to do well again,” Kunaka said. United States-based Tariro Dembo booked her place in three finals as she is also in the running for the doubles and mixed doubles of the tournament. Dembo will face Tanyaradzwa Magunje in the singles finals. She beat Kundai Manyonga 6-1, 6-1 in the singles semis while Magunje beat Danai Chinamo 6-3, 6-3 in the other semi-final.
