AN  MDC-T official last Thursday lost a cellphone and US$200 cash when he was assaulted by fellow supporters as he sought to join a meeting at the party headquarters at Harvest House in Harare.
Police said Tichaona Munyanyi (56) the organising secretary for Harare was assaulted by Shakespear Mukoi following an altercation.
It is believed that Mukoi had barred Munyanyi from entering an executive council meeting after accusing him of being aligned to the party’s expelled deputy treasurer-general Mr Elton Mangoma.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“Munyanyi went to Harvest House to attend the meeting and at the door he was barred by Mukoi following an argument over factionalism within their party,” he said.

Chief Supt Nyathi said Munyanyi forced himself in and was later followed by Mukoi who assaulted him. The two were later restrained by officials who were attending the meeting.

Munyanyi reported to the police last Sunday and the matter was still under investigation.
No arrests had been made.

On Monday, 11 MDC-T supporters from Chitungwiza appeared in court on allegations of engaging in factional violence at a memorial service on Saturday.
Costa Andreya and 10 others were not formally charged when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.
