Incoming zanu-pf Secretary for Women’s Affairs Amai Grace Mugabe tours the venue of the party’s 6th National Peoples Congress in Harare yesterday

the First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe yesterday toured the congress venue at the Harare Civic Centre Grounds ahead of the official opening of the crunch indaba on Thursday. Amai Mugabe is set to assume leadership of the Zanu-PF Women’s League at the congress.

War veterans, youths, women, traditional leaders, students and churches have endorsed the decision to make Amai Mugabe the Women’s League boss at the congress.

The congress began yesterday with the arrival of delegates from different parts of the country.

Rooney’s Hire Services, which was mandated to prepare the congress venue said it was putting final touches before the big event.

Amai Mugabe toured the venue in the company of the team that she went around the country with during her Meet the People Tour.

It comprised outgoing secretary for Womens Affairs Cde Oppah Muchinguri and her deputy Cde Eunice Sandi Moyo, Cdes Sarah Mahoka and Edna Madzongwe.

Also to welcome Dr Mugabe was the Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, political commissar Cde Webster Shamu, who had a torrid time as youths sang in his face denouncing him for being part of a team planning to topple President Mugabe.

As soon as Amai Mugabe arrived, scores of Zanu-PF supporters at the venue started chanting slogans and singing songs that denounced Vice President Mujuru and her allies.

Harare provincial affairs Minister Miriam Chikukwa also faced the wrath of the youths as they openly told her that time was up for sell-outs.

Some of the songs the youths sang included “Mujuru, Mutasa, Chikukwa chera mwena nguva yakwana and “Musareverana nhema Bob haazi wekubata kumeso.”

Vice President Joice Mujuru and secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa have been fingered as chief architects in the plot to assassinate President Mugabe which effectively ruled them out of the Presidium matrix, a development compounded by their failure to land Central Committee slots.

The First Lady held a lengthy closed door meeting with party officials at the venue before she emerged and refused to grant an interview to local and foreign journalists who were waiting to doorstep her.

Amai Mugabe has won the hearts of many Zimbabweans when she took the bull by its horns, exposing the corrupt activities being carried out by senior Zanu-PF officials, including VP Mujuru.

She accused VP Mujuru of illicit diamond deals and extortion, demanding 10 percent shares from companies among other sordid deals.

This saw the VP coming underfire from Zimbabweans who have called for her resignation.

She has already failed to make it into the Central Committee with people in her province, Mashonaland Central rejecting her application.

The provincial executive said they were not prepared to work with someone who wanted to unconstitutionally remove the President.

Her key allies, Cdes Mutasa, Shamu and Nicholas Goche have met a similar fate.

Meanwhile, accreditation of Congress delegates continued yesterday.
